The International Tourism Congress (ITC) is an autonomous activity of CITUR.
Under the subject “The image and sustainability of tourism destinations”, its first edition was held in 2007 and, except for the editions of 2012 and 2016, this international congress has been held annually.
It should be noted that the 2014 edition was held in the Sultanate of Oman, in partnership with the Sultan Qaboos University. The X edition (ITC’18), a partnership with Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas (ESPE), took place in Quito, Ecuador.
The XI edition (ITC’19), a partnership with University of Madeira and the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, will take place from 5 to 7 November 2019, in Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal.
The ITC’19 includes two types of sessions: plenary sessions, on topics of great interest to the conference participants, with invited academics and recognized experts; Parallel sessions, where the national and international community of tourism researchers is invited to present their research papers, with the possibility of being published in indexed scientific journals. It should be noted that, as in previous editions, a prize will be awarded to the best scientific paper presented at the Congress.
ITC’19 has the following objectives:
- To present and discuss national and international experiences related to the competitiveness and sustainability of tourism destinations and to the brands, marketing and tourist experiences.
- To provide an open forum for exchange of views on topics related to strategies and management of tourism destinations, among the community, students, academics, business decision makers and professionals.
- To explore and discuss new perspectives on tourism and regional development in order to promote new methodologies and empirical approaches.
- To analyze the importance of tourism activities and their economic, social, cultural and environmental impact, at regional, national and international level.
