The Research Cluster on Surfing and Sustainability of Coastal Areas (NIS) is a platform for innovation and quality in the research of surf tourism and sustainability of coastal areas, favoring a multidisciplinary perspective; NIS is open to the participation of all CiTUR members.

Mission: to ensure excellence in the development of applied research, in the production and transfer of scientific knowledge in the field of surf tourism and the sustainability of coastal areas, with a primary focus on the well-being of communities.

Goals: to establish itself as a knowledge center and information resource for all interested parties; to contribute to sustainable development and the community’s quality of life; to promote scientific exchange partnerships with national and international institutions and researchers; to support a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach.

 

The Research, Innovation and Training on Hospitality Management (RHYTHM) promotes innovation and quality in hospitality management research, favoring a multidisciplinary perspective. RHYTHM is open to the participation of all CiTUR members.

Mission: to apply excellence research, production and transfer of scientific knowledge in the field of hospitality management, aiming at management practices that promote the sustainable socio-economic development of the hotel industry.

Goals: to produce and share knowledge and training resources for all stakeholders; to contribute to the socio-economic and sustainable development of the hotel industry; to promote scientific exchange partnerships with national and international institutions and researchers; to support a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach.

 

The Research Cluster on Tourism Destinations (NID) is focused on developing and implementing methodologies for monitoring the performance of tourism destinations in areas considered relevant from the point of view of competitiveness and sustainability; NID is open to the participation of all CiTUR members.

Mission: to ensure excellence in the development of applied research and assure the transfer of scientific knowledge in the field of tourism destinations’ competitiveness and sustainability, particularly in terms of planning, governance, strategic management, brand management and monitoring of tourism activities, in conjunction with public and private destination management entities, including the provision of specialized services to these entities.

Goals: to design, validate and supervise the implementation of tourism activity monitoring systems, appropriate to different geographical scales: local, regional, national and supranational; to contribute to the adoption of tourism destination governance models, aiming at improving their competitiveness and sustainability; to contribute to the definition and adoption of good practices in the field of research and management of information on tourism destinations; to support the creation and consolidation of observatories dedicated to the research on tourism destinations at a local, regional or national level; to support the development of technological solutions supporting the tourism activity of destinations, capable of facilitating the collection, processing and sharing of information; to position itself as a provider of information services of great added value to tourism destination management entities – that is, municipalities, intermunicipal communities, ERT’s (Tourism Regional Entities) and Turismo de Portugal – and sectoral associations operating in tourism.

 

The Research Cluster on Branding and Digital Development in Tourism (BRANNDIT) develops research lines focused on tourism (digital marketing, datamining, social media, design of digital brands, digital promotion in tourism, programming of mobile applications) fostering the emergence of projects for the design and development of multi-format and cross-platform digital strategies; BRANNDIT is open to the participation of all CiTUR members.

Mission: to carry out excellence in applied research and ensure the transfer of knowledge in the Digital Marketing, Branding and Brand Communication associated with tourism, in particular in the fields of strategic creation of new tourist brands, development of digital strategies for tourism promotion, and of communication strategies for brands, companies and entities that make the digital environment the scenario for their activity of providing services in tourism.

Goals: to build a transversal network of skills; to develop a research line in digital data monitoring, capable of generating actionable results used by companies and public entities, based on the information freely disseminated in the various platforms used by consumers of tourism products; to develop specific methodologies to gathering and analyzing data from digital platforms; to raise awareness of new statistical approaches to information exchange and consumer recommendations among group members; to implement and disseminate its own methodologies for the creation of digital tourism brands; to foster the linking of the digital tourism area with the master’s degrees, encouraging the emergence of ideas for theses and related projects, which can be presented to the second cycle finalists; to position itself as a provider of marketing and digital branding services to companies and tourism entities along diverse areas.
